I was wondering if anyone has gone through the process of registering their electric recumbent as a motor vehicle or has a link to someone who has worked through the process.

I have read the various statutes for WI on registering an experimental vehicle as a moped/motorcycle. They seem pretty straightforward. There are quite a few three wheeled buggies in my area. It is much easier to register a home built three wheeler than a home built four wheeler.

I would appreciate learning of anyone's experiences working with their local DMV before I show up at the inspection station with my stack of documentation.

I received a packet from the technical division of the NYS DMV with details on how to register a home built vehicle. I found under our current laws I would have to build a regular motorcycle using motorcycle parts with FMVSS certified components. Check with your insurance company too. They may have specifications on what they will insure.
