I just wobble like I can't control the bike. Cars seem to stay far away when I do that. Of course there is aways the nuts that will still run over you no matter what. If they can see the road and lines painted on the roads, they can see you. If they don't see you, it is because they are not paying attention. I now ride with a mirror on each side of the bike plus a helmet mirror for when going around curves and can't see what is behind me in my handle bar mirrors. Don't ride with ear phones on either.

In greater Ottawa it's one metre, 39 inches and change, it's not a force field but it's a good start. Keep the flags and a length of pool noodle across the back rack and the helmet with the multi-coloured plastic bowling pins attached.
