Upgraded from a Corsa to the aero 650cc. This is my firt carbon bike. Rode 30 hilly miles today. It was awesome! Very responsive, fast acceleration and a bit easier on the climbs. Thanks to TTR bikes in Greenville SC, what a great shop.

I've been riding a different bike for the last 2 months at Piru. The dual 406 goes 24.5-25.5 mph on 200 W (from races in the last few years, not in the last 2 months). It's about 3 mph slower than the dual 650C.

yeah you should totally bring that up to PIR next year and let me do the stock TT with it...
I have Phil estimated @ 285 watts to do the 20 min run last year...28.5 mph or so.
Breaking 30mph would be amazing!

My best 1 min power is 560... would also make for a great 200M flying sprint.

oh i see.
probably looking at the wrong bike, then :-)

I thought you were metering that.

I have a spot in my garage for it :-)

I have him @ 24mph on 175 watts. Out and back, some grade, some wind. Could be 24.5 mph in better conditions.
So probably between 29-30 on 300 watts, since it seems to take about 20 watts to go up a mph when you're around the 24-27 mph range. It goes up really fast when you get around 29mph, though.
getting wattage requirements in the 32-35 mph range are probably a lot more telling on how efficient a particular bike is.

With an aggressively laid back head position and dual disks, I think my CA1 would be pretty close.

There's simply no one competitively climbing on bents, though, it's really the last frontier.

~200 W, 28.0 mph => .115 sq m CdA (no power meter)
300 W, .115 sq m CdA => 32.7 mph

Aure's performance
~370 W, 35.168 mph => .117 sq m CdA (no power meter)

And 300 watts on something like the Magic Bike? Larry?

I managed 29.45 for this 5.5 mile run:

(check box, toggle details)
Probably right around 300-340 watts. Hard to say, as it was part of a monster 50 mile 23.5 mph effort with lots of interruptions.

Not sure exact numbers, but I think if I can do 27.5 mph on 300 watts on the Corsa, then with the CA1, 27.5 would be about 270. Maybe closer to 28 if I ran a disk.
Seems like I save about 10 watts when I hang my head over the back of the seat, too. No idea, the wind stops hitting my ears so it's probably perception, but I swear the bike moves forward and my cadence increases a few bpm, as well.

Hey Tim, it sounds like Larry is giving away the Magic Bike. What could your 270 watts do.with that?

I upgraded from a Corsa to the aero 650c (CA1). Also my first Carbon bike. I've claimed almost 30 strava KOM's in as many days. Put some tubular 404 knock-offs on it. It's fast on the flats. It's fast on the Downhills. It's fast on the climbs. It's fast just sittin in my garage. It talks so fast I can hardly understand it: "gurble gurble gurlbeFASTER!!!gruble"
:-)

Damnit, I hate hearing this as I don't want to buy a new bike. I bet if I rode one I'd be spoiled and then have to cut up my heavy, flimsy, steel bikes. Thanks a lot!
