The 2017 Kickstand classic is Sunday, 10/1/2017, in Bartlett, IL. That's this weekend!

http://www.kickstandclassic.org $45 which includes a professionally timed 19 mile ride/race with a bunch of roadies, plus a T-shirt, plus BEER at 8AM.

Weather is forecast as clear, but temps will be in the upper 40s at 6:30am (race starts right at sunrise). I haven't ridden since the Hawkeye Downs races over week ago, but what the heck, I'm going. It's a fantastic event with 4 easy corners on closed suburban roads.

Pics from last year:

Way to go Warren! A year older and a minute faster. Sounds like you had fun.

Here's a cool drone video of last year's event, but I don't see myself anywhere in it. Maybe it was from the 8AM slower race. I did see a drone at the start this year, so maybe there will be another cool video of this years event.

Chris Evans showed up with his Quest velomobile and we had a short chat before the race started.

The race went well, and this year there was a fast roadie team of 4 that was pacelining in the lead that I drafted off of or led down the hills. Chris passed me in the first mile and I never saw him again. The roadie team and I mixed it up for the whole race which made it fun and probably pushed us all to go faster. It all came down to the sprint for the finish line. They passed me going up a small rise about a half mile from the finish, then there was a small downslope and I caught and passed them a few hundred yards before the finish. I was giving it all I had but two of them passed me right at the finish line. I thought I was 2nd or 3rd but we were all timed individually and they must have started 2 seconds before I did. Woo Hoo! First place behind Chris' rocket ship Quest! I think we averaged about 25MPH, which is not bad as temps were in the upper 40s when the race started.

There was one other recumbent rider who was on a nice looking Cruzbike. He said he was from Chicago.

I skipped the breakfast beer this year as I had guests at home...

Yes, definitely it helped to be able to draft the roadies! This year I was almost a minute faster than last year!

Way to go Chris, 28.3 mph! Warren, it looks like a pace line was only 2 seconds behind you; did you pass them or were they catching up to you?
