How l started. My airplane molds (BD-5) l own are used for cf velomobile unibody. Ideas/conversations are welcome: march-7-2015 [This past MAY has been 2 years].

My molds favor this shape:

Rear cowling will look like this photo below, my velo at rear is 5" wider: plus i have a rear bulkhead like the WAW velomobile.

With shop addition i am short on room, 4 wheeler now behind sofa, the rear fender skirts (plugs/masters) have been wet sanded an now added 2 more sprays of awlgrip epoxy primer, much more water sanding, then buffing and pull 2 molds L. & R. side rear for this great 4 wheeler velomobiel.

The new photobucket is working, l do pay monthly fee. My best photos are saved there. I never load all my photos to anything, just the ones l want. Like 1000 on photobucket and l do delete some from time to time, I do also store all photos on PNY flashdrive.

Part A, of 2 part mold.. dust storms & monkee suits.
1)orange part is part A of 2 piece mold.
2) part B will be made over next 30 days.
3)then a light carbon part can be made. (the upper/the top of the 4 wheeler) Make one for each velomobiel whether it is 3 or 4 wheeler, same upper top.

Heres photo from years ago of the team getting ready to trim whole perimeter of new right side and polish it. Triming flange’s outside is mess of flying fiber glass , i buy white full monkey suits on ebay for 8$, head cover and full face resporator. Air hose does the rest. Then wet sand with water hose the whole perimeter and round the edges of it too.

Two huge boxes were built and packed over last month for seafreight of velotilt company.

iam in love with the truck: I ran my 10 car hauler to california and back 9 years/million mile plus club. When fuel went to $5.25 a gallon and 2008 crash we all died out of trucking which we loved. Best life l ever had , but now The pacifier of retirement and building velomobiles is heavens blessing.

I put the “Mr. Florian Schlumpf mountian drive back on. So schlumpf, gates carbon belt, rohloff in nose. Some machine work i had to do, took 6 hours today 9 may 2020.

CITY CAR 4 WHEELER: Parts of this town are hilly, but plateaus too. Dont know why they call it a city. The vehicle with a bafang assist is really something, a real go getter with no gasoline. Music, lights, signals, horn, heated seat option, safety of 4 matching tires and drum brakes, no derailleurs. I like the ral blue paint that comes on df velomobiel. paint in next few months or so. l love riding it. Next velo will be summer velomobiel. No nose or tail fairings, no side walls, new style boom, 3 wheel hardtail w/ front macpherson suspension, at least one gates carbon belt. Super light in carbon.

Fender skirts (photo below) from the 50’s:) I love em. Try to finish sanding front top over next month. Imagine ral blue color for this 4w rohloff schlumpf drive, yea, put Mr. Florian Schlumpf mountain drive back in today maybe or tomorrow.

Velotilt : this velomobiel does not need tons of changes. Just a couple and more brake for some countries.

worked part time on this plug/master for couple days: will make mold for left rear wheel well skirt on the 4 wheeler.

heres amateur youtube to explain: https://youtu.be/GNg07BE4sKY

parts come out primered nowdays: use your imagination for the city car rear fender skirts. Trim an fit and whatever else for top perimeter and mounting points.

12 april 2020 sunday:

popped out the rear cowling this morning, real happy with it. Nice primer finish. Bout 6 or 7 lil’ blemishes to fill. My first step is to clean, prep, cover the mold and roll out of the way ready for next time. I have to trim and fit to the 4 wheeler rear & few screws and rivnuts. Wet sanding & fixing few blemishes.,,,, amateurs like me gonna have a few blemishes.

The biggest pay back for part coming out with epoxy primer is the agonizing waisted time i would have priming and prepping this part if it were just carbon. You dont know how much extra work that is (will never haf ta do that again). All the waisted time. Learn as l go. Whether you wrap or paint a velomobiel this has to be the new way. Last painter did a favor for extra work he had to do (2019 yellow velomobiel l sold) more filling and sanding without this style pre-primered carbon part.

photobucket got it back together:

this process i have been taught is the best .

1)you’ve seen this mold above
2) yeasterday cleaned and put 6 layers of mavcoat release on with sock & glove.
3) this morning l sprayed coat of polyvinyl alcohol
4) this evening i rolled on coat of epoxy primer awlgrip from jamestown distributors.
5) painted on awlgrip epoxy primer along the seems of the three part mold bout 2 inches wide.
6) tomorrow will roll on 2 coats of awlgrip.

This process: 1)when you pull part out it is primered with great epoxy primer 2) the polyvinyl alcohol coat makes the painter not hate you, no fisheyes or never ending pin-holes. 3) when you paint over the mavcoat & PVA its all good and in my opinion it adds some structure and strength to the part. in this case/the rear cowling.

Carbon is “Notorious” for pinholes & fish-eyes on paint & even if you make the part with kevlar & fglass ( fglass down first tyen kevlar on top) its the same problems.

9april2020: update
Hair Spray holds carbon pieces in place , later mix epoxy and wet first layer, Then do second layer and chain valley, your good for the day project.

10 april 2020 after midnight, 2 hours and 20 mins non-stop carbon layup. Will let it cure 2 days, may be best ive done with few new tips. I like kevlar fglass one best but needed this carbon one for another experiment.

long hot shower and sit a while, youll be just fine.

Ready for part to be made/rear cowling mold. Rear is like a waw thanks to stephane, daniel, and ymte. Compositeenvisions.com supplies.

carolina Posted - 03/24/2020 : 17:09:20
you can too: took 4 mins to pop top mold and plug loose from lower mold 2 pieces (3 piece mold). Plastic wedges from harbor freight.

Plug will go to storage now,,,, whole perimeter of top mold/tool is loaded with sharpe knife-point teeth to trim off and sand.

Full face respirator and few good tools outside and the perimeter flange is trimmed and sanded smooth. Scrub it a few times with soap and water and mold cleaner. l already drilled matching holes for upper to bolt to the 2 piece lower molds/3 piece mold should make a nice rear cowling.

6 coats of mavcoat every 15 mins, l cover w/sheet, wait till next day and do lay-up.
