Wow. While it's amazing that all that complexity actually produces a four legged gait from bike cranks, I guess Rube is not too concerned about turning or falling over. Maybe that required some additional rods and bushings...

I have something to share while on this topic. I produced a gait matrix a long time ago.
I used a 128k Macintosh (it was like the 1200th Mac ever built). The computer was so slow, I decided to make a flip book by printing each frame on an index card.

Then I videotaped the result:

I watch marathoners go 26 miles and I am in awe....I call it a good ride when I get to do that on my 'bent. So, I'm positive that a relatively efficient gait enhancer/replacer can be developed. My son, for instance, can jog quite a distance at relative ease on his "powerisers".
