I'll be driving from northern Indiana by myself. Would be glad for company--have room in the minivan for 1 rider & single bike (I'm taking a streamliner & lowracer). I'll be taking US30 across Indiana and I80 across Illinois and Iowa. Email me: jeff <dot> hunn <at> verizon <dot> net

Hi Jeff,
Not sure how we are getting to Iowa, The Saturn wagon has room for only a driver and one streamliner or a passenger and no steamliner.

The Cuda-W is back together! Hopefully I'll have time to take a test ride before the races. I'm looking forward to going fast in Iowa!

I'm thinking about going - and maybe bringing the Norus streamliner (first time to ride it). I'll bring my Challenge lowracer as well.
I can fit one other lowracer in my minivan, if anyone wants me to pick them up along the way from Detroit to Chicago then I-80 to Cedar Rapids.

Or maybe I should just leave the Norus at home, again... then I'd have more room for someone else's bike/trike!

C'mon Mike! Bring the Norus. I'll bring spare coroplast to tape on to the sides like Georgi did for Barbara. ;-)

Yes Mike it is time the Norus takes the track again. You won't find a better track to learn the art of racing a liner. We need you in the " BIG SHOW ".

The Alleweder is not so fast in the corners; since there isn't room to lean it is frighteningly easy to pick a wheel in a turn, and I'm not anxious to determine the coefficient of sliding friction between aluminum and pavement empirically. But since you asked, I'll think about bringing it.

Mike: yes, bring the Norus!

Tedd: we'll make you some bump stops to keep the suspension lean to a minimum, that should help.

Braking is not a sin. Indy cars do it all the time.

Ok Guys, I actually took a test ride in the Cuda-W last night, and it's working fine so I know it won't be a trailer queen this weekend. It could still use tweaking of course, but I have all winter to do that. I'm looking forward to going fast and turning left this weekend!

Hooray! I was thinking about creating a new surcharge for untested bikes on race day. Should go over at least as well as gun control.

Should have a good group of faired vehicles on the track: Rick, Warren, Tony, Jeff, Mike, Rich, Bill, Tracy, Ted(?), Doc, Frank, me, and anybody else?

Might have a couple new faces in stock, maybe.

I hope you all have a safe trip out and tons of new PBs and track records this weekend. I'll be hitting the last race at Xenia and might even be able to drag 80 grit along for the ride too.

Yours truly did not make it to the Iowa HPRa races - my excuses are
1) Took Friday off, had the van all packed up with the Norus streamliner, the Challenge lowracer, but then couldn't find my mirrors, 451 tubes, favorite riding glooves, etc. blah blah. Printer stopped working to print Mapquest directions. Had a bad headache that the sunshine was making worst, laid down to rest, end of story
2) Stayed up to 3 to 5 am Wed and Thurs night following Battle Mountain results, providing feedback on antecdotal historial and otherwise boring results list on the Web Forum, that a few people read - my nerd duty as a records-obsessed geek!
3) Had a last minute chance to go to a wedding - and any opportunity to meet girls (well didn't), rather than driving 500 miles through the night and racing sounded more appealing, i've been a social outcast this summer, doing nothing but work and HPV stuff.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get to got out there again. Dennis and Mr. and Mrs. Grelk have been so wonderful attending all the events. I missed Mary's cookies! I missed seeing everyone going fast, especially if Warren got the Cuda-W tuned up (he too was updating BM results from afar). I promise to get the Norus out on the track (I've only owned for like 2.5 years now since I bought it from Rob). Hmmm, maybe I should just leave it in the van packed up for the Ohio races... that will save me the hassle of having to to pack it up again.

Mike, it's time get a slick looking bent and ride it everywhere, especially to Critical Mass or other cycle rallies. People will come up and talk to you about it. Make sure to interact with the ones you find attractive.

Even though I am happily ensconced, I've noticed that my recumbents have been drawing even smiles from women lately. Because of the trend towards all things environmentally green and good for the planet, I think that things as far away from big muscle SUVs are really drawing all the attention. Even though smart is always in vogue, lately it's been really good for geeks. Heck, your President is a geek.

As an example, the local cycle chopper guy rode my leaning trike at Critical Mass. There is no flattery better than the macho man saying that he wants what I've got.

:)ensen

Those who claim to be making history are often the same ones repeating it.

The Hockey Downs racing weather was great, the track was great, and the people were great. My building and testing skills, not so great. The clearance between the tire and chainring is too small. It was an "interference fit". I thought it would be ok, but apparently not, so now I need a smaller chainring. I raced Dennis's super-light Bacchetta highracer all weekend and was slow. OTOH, lots of other racers went fast. Dennis and Rick tied for streamliner 1st place. Dora won 1st place in women's class. 2nd & 3rd in womens went to the Rose Hulman college HPV team dynamic duo of Ariel and Rachelle, racing on borrowed lowracers. Tracy in the WAW velomobile beat up on Tyger and Richard in their F40s for the superstreet win. A naked Bruce Gordon (um, that means no fairing), ran away with the win in superstock.

Exciting indeed! I counted off 5-second lap times for Rick. That puts him at around 360 mph for the 1/2 mile laps. And yet I wonder how fast those guys passing him were going? What sort of tires you 'all using to go them der speeds??
