To all that have seen me or stopped to talk with me about my E-recumbent tricycle here are the specks of what I did I Bought the tricycle Sun recumbent EZ-TRI Classic from Tj.Frisbee in RIDGECREST Ca for $1000 out the door. Next I order the E-4 Motor kit off the wed but I think you can do better then I did here at this site http://www.cyclone-tw.com/order-M.htm but if you cant find or make your own motor mounting plate for the kind of tricycle you choose then you will have to pay more for the kit and you can do that here . http://www.electric-bikes.com/betterbikes/e-4asm.html The batteries I went with was two SLA- UB12350 just how far they will go is still under testing with me but I can tell you that so far I have did all the running around I needed to do in Ridgecrest and only used 30% of the batteries charg. Hope all this info in one spot here helps you with your setting up of a E-Tric.
Shoot I dont no whats up with the photos?? I tryed...

I fixed it (Warren)

Easy, you'll need to upload your pictures to a picture hosting site, then link to that from here.

Need to clear some things up.. I get the feeling from some of you when we speak in person that I am promoting this kit..Just because you find something cheaper or used is a good thing I am in no way connected to the web sits I have referred you to in my post and I am only reporting on what I had to do to get where and what you are seeing now. Yes there may be someone out there putting the hole package together for a price I don't no But if they are they are staying well hid from me..
I think this bad economy has everyone on edge and now inflation has set in things are not looking good.. I see them SLA Batterys I bought juts 2 months ago for $128. for two are now $268. for two.

Actually you're not the only cripple on the forum. After my wreck I was left permanently disabled, it's just that once I get on the bike my disability becomes "invisible" aside from some rather gnarly scars. I'm actively doing research in ULEV like assist bikes, looking for the next-gen urban and inter-urban road vehicles. My research is telling me that the future vehicle will look like a velomobile and have about 200 miles range per day, and possibly have a ICE powered generator for all-day range without recharging. Also our world will run a lot slower, probably about 30 MPH/ 50 km/h between towns and 12 MPH/ 20 km/h in towns.

Opus

My gas is up to $0.99 a burrito, $5.99 for premium and I'm only getting 10 miles to the regular burrito. Dang $0.99 burritos are smaller now.

That's really cool but I could not figure out what all the letters mean in your ULEV please explain?? About the only thing I could complain about with the trike I chose is the suspension I think it would of not been much more to put a couple of shocks and swing arm on the back for the money I payed.. I will have to look at some of your post to see what it is your testing.. Sorry to here your disabled but it sounds like your the right man for the job of testing things out..

Ultra Light Electric Vehicle(s) Vehicles weighing under 200Kgs that get all or most of their propulsion from electricity. E-assist bikes fall under that category. Anyway, like I posted earlier my disability doesn't show when I'm on a bike so I can ride a regular bike as well as any "normal" person of my age and fitness level...

I don't post any of my EV research on these fora, except where someone asks for specifics of laws where I know them. I'm up of the federal regulations, and on the specifics and case law for TX. I build to either TX or the most restrictive rules from both sets of regulations. The one that has the most leeway under the Federal rules is the 750W "rating" for the motor. I know several e-bike motors that are "rated" at 750W or less that are capable of more than 2000 Watts for a half-hour or so before going into thermal shutdown. Under the TX rules the one that is the most restrictive and also has the most leeway is the 100 pound empty weight, under the case law the "ready to run" clause allows just about everything to be removed from the bike except the bare minimum required to ride with assist (including fairings and fenders, battery boxes that only protect against dirt and water. any chargers, and anything that can carry a load besides the batteries). Basically all you need to have is the seat, frame, wheels and tires, plus the battery and controller.

Another aspect of the TX regulations is that the bike is allowed to run as fast as the posted speed limit as long as the pedals are required to turn when the motor is powered. Most of my TX-only bikes had the motor that turned the cranks when power was applied to meet the requirement. The one I have been designing most recently used a pedal sensor that required a certain level of pressure plus a certain cadence to get power, and how fast you could go could be set by software at the controller.

Holly cow guess my trike will not work in Texas....I cant believe there is some law officer standing out there with a watt meeter checking your watts now I do see a problem if you go zegging by a cop faster then the speed limit on a electric bike.
