I rode an upright TT bike last night(first time on one, thanks for the loan Peter) It felt light and fast............for the first 30 seconds! Then I was reminded why I like recumbents, especially faired ones.

Mark, which bike are you racing?

Greg is going to race my Mango with the hood and I'm racing my dual 650. The weather looks perfect.

BTW, did they post the results from last two races anywhere?

Peter,
I will be riding my Trek TTX time trial bike as I need some seat time for Saturdays 30K Dunlap TT (No recumbents). I actually much prefer riding the Bacchetta for 40K and above TT's.

Most my bikes I can chop and change without any issues after just a few miles but the Trek TT bike really takes me a while to acclimatize to the position and handling. It normally takes me 5-6 rides before I feel as one with the beast and can really start pushing out the power with confidence. I am not suprised that Greg had a huge culture shock when he tried a TT bike.

Sandra has my cold now so she may not be able to ride Wednesday.

I have no idea where the results are.

It will be interesting how your time will compare to the Bacchetta. Seems that the DFs get more benefit from the tail wind, so it may be comparable. I'm not surprised you prefer the Bacchetta for the longer distance TTs, it's so much more comfortable.

I was pretty impressed with Greg's 24.4 average, considering he did a good portion of the return leg off the aero bars and did not use aero wheels.

Speedy recovery to Sandra.

I'll see you guys out there tomorrow, I'll be bringing the Xstream....should be interesting considering my limited riding time this year.....I've set my goal for "mild embarrassment" only......

Peter,

I dont think it will be a fair comparison with the Bacchetta as I was in much better form on my two attempts on Barry. My original goal for this TT was to beat 26.8MPH which I reckon is the form I would need to be on to win at Dunlap in my age group but now I would be really happy beating 25.2MPH (My Dunlap speed from last year that got me 3rd place).

Not a true reflection of the speed of the Musashi as I had ridden DMD a few days before.

Mark, So how was the 40k for you and the Milkman? Im glad I took the night off. 40k with a cold would have been miserable. Peter and I are excited to do next weeks 10mi. It will be interesting to compare the speed of the Mango to the Quest and all the other bikes I have tried at the TT this year.

Here's my ride report. I arrive early on what was a very nice and warm evening, I get about an hour warm up and itching to go and only minutes away from my starting time. As I make my final turn-around to head to the start there's a big "klunk klunk" and my drive train freezes up. The chain is now lodged between the rear cassette and spokes (never had this happen) on the rear tire, attempts to free are futile as I hear my name called to start. Hoping I could free it before the last rider to salvage my evening was also futile. As the sole recumbent attending that evening I was unable to represent, hoping Mark has a better report than I !!

I was wondering what happened to you Rich. Sandra said it looked like you had snapped your chain. I also heard there were a number of crashes on Wednesday night (one of them quite serious).

Basically I felt great for the first 10 miles then either the heat (It was over 90 degrees at Putah) or my lack of fitness caught up with me and I blew a gasket. The last 15 miles were done in survival mode and I suffered badly.
My time was about 1.5 minutes slower than I did on the Bacchetta a month ago and I think this difference reflects my current state of fitness rather than a difference between the two platforms.

I am hoping I start to get a bit of form back for the 3 10m TT's this month.

I have drafted my full ride report on my blog but I have been having wordpress issues and have been unable to publish it yet. Hopefuly wordpress will be back up by this evening.

Rich, what a bummer! That happened to me once on my front wheel drive Zox, while going around 18 mph. It was an intense braking experience, followed by a slide on my side. Fortunately, I ended-up in the grass, so didn't have any road rash.

Mark, do you know any more details about the crashes?

We will be in your neighborhood attempting to launch Greg for his first solo in the enclosed Varna on Livermore Ave. at 8:30 Sunday morning. Stop by if you are curious & can make it. He will be going from the 90 degree turn towards Livermore.

Chain popped apart, spokes and hub potentially ruined, derailer questionable, going to take full inventory in the AM but appears to have been an expensive outing. Just had the wheel rebuilt last weekend too.....

18 mph on the front wheel, Peter, you win in the scary dept on that one... ...I was only going a couple mph...

I'm pretty close to here as well, this is a very fast road north to south. Bring a camera, i drove it today and there are some really amazing photo opportunities now with the hay bales bundled in the vast open fields.......

News Flash!

Greg averages 30.95 mph, this time in a Mango with Da Hood! This compares closely to his speed in the Quest w/o Da Hood (but with the apron). This confirms the Quest is 2-3 mph faster than the Mango...

Peter struggles with his new/old Renn disk rubbing the rear brake and sapping the precious watts...Average only 24.25 - Effort more like 26.25.

"The Milkman" & BritC seen on course - results unknown...

I did a Putah personal best last night in 22:07 which means 27.12886209 MPH. My Garmin actually measured my time a bit quicker than they measured me.

Got to find another 8 seconds to break into the 21 minute barrier before the end of the year. I would be enormously happy if I could beat my all time 10 mile TT personal best. I think it is 21:50 but my wife is convinced it was 21:20 (I am still trying to find the results of that event). My personal best was done on a very fast course in the UK.

Here are the results of a 10mile TT on that UK course from last night (FAST!!!):

The race I did my personal best was also won by Joel Wainman back in 1996ish.

Congratulations Mark!! So was it the new Renn disk that did it? What was your time for the first split?

Also, congratulations on the second place in the Dunlap TT.

do you know what the unfaired recumbent record is for this race (20k)?
