It was great fun. The course was wide and there were a ton of volunteers and police to block off the 4.8 mile course. I took off at the 6:30 am start and kept expecting to see the peloton coming up behind me. It was just light enough to see the road, but brightened up quickly. The corners were wide and you could take them at speed. Temps were perfect and no wind. There were lots of people cheering along the route. I kept on the gas the whole 4 laps and they never caught me. I finished almost 2 minutes in front of the next fastest rider with a time of 46:09 Dora did great too, she finished first in her age group, and was the 3rd woman overall. Then Chris, Dora and I all had a free beer at 8:00 am.

At the awards they gave me fastest recumbent instead of fastest overall, but whatever, the prize was the same, a plastic upright racer trophy with "Top Finisher" on it. Apparently they forgot the recumbent disclaimer when saying"all kinds of bikes are welcome".

It was a very good and well run event and I will do it again next year as long as they still allow recumbent bikes.

I used my CF dual 700c racer. The terrain is reasonably flat. Slight uphill at the start, slight rolling downhill on the back straight, slight rolling uphill to the finish. It would be very doable in a streamliner, and I would consider it for next year if they would allow it.

Warren, what was your time and distance? 46 minutes for 19 miles seems unlikely. Good job snaking into that newspaper picture.

Nineteen miles in 46:09 is 24.70 mph, 16 miles in 46.09 is 20.80. I like the sound of 24.70 better. Way to go Warren. The guy in the middle looked like he was surprised to see you, thinking what the heck is that.

Thank for the math correction Jerry. I must have been thinking Warren could go 60 mph.

Welcome to Jerry's world Thom. I think they call it old timers disease. I will be doing something and the wife will ask me a question, and I go sit down and forget what the heck I was doing.

It was just 19.2 miles total (4.8 x 4 laps)
Results:

Looks like the timers used 19 miles for the course distance rather than 19.2, but close enough.

I think you are right Garrie. Damn, I hate getting...what was I doing?

Correction then Warren, 19.2 at 46.09 is 24.96 mph. That is even more impressive. Hopefully next year my life will not be so hectic so I can make a few events and races. I'll see most of everyone as they lap me, if I can remember to go the right direction.
