https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairgrounds_Speedway

The large oval is .56 mile long with 18 degree banks, the inner oval is flat, 1/4 mile long. I calculate a 54 kph 33(mph) bank.

It looks like chip seal :

(This close up looks like the pit area where the cars don't run and debris have built up.)

Ride from my mother's house up the Natchez Trace, race some, ride back home. OK, I hope to be there.

Tony;
I would think that, since they run one of the NASCAR Truck Series races there, that the paving would have to be more durable than chip seal.

Hi Gary,

The trend is to use bigger aggregate in the asphalt and slag, it has better traction, so yes, its not chip seal, but the latest advancement in race track surface.

This picture looks smooth...like a giant velodrome, perfect for streamliners. It probably has good traction even when wet. I can visualize 10 streamliners rounding the bend.

The surface is asphalt. The company Speedway Motorsports, that owns Bristol Motor Speedway, and 7 other speedways, wants to take over running the Nashville track. They said they would re-pave the track if they become the new operator. This was announced August 30, 2017 in the Tennesean.

I just watched Gary Solo's Laidback bike report. He had Charles Coyne who runs CycleCon and the Nashville race at the Fairground Speedway. According to What Mr. Coyne said, there will only be a 3 hour or 6 hour race, no brackets or sprints. If this holds true, I am out.

Yeah, I don't think I have even 3 hours in me. A 1hr TT would be great.

Exactly, Wayne.3 and 6 hour races sounds like someone out of touch with the sport.

I have nothing against ultra endurance, but it would have been nice if they were to have at least a few different bracket levels of racing. I mean to advertise it as a HPV race, then just have one long endurance race. Come on guys, you should be able to do better. At least have a 10k and 20k race. Six hours, hell, that is longer than I sleep!

Per my conversation with Charles Coyne, a couple days ago, the multi hour time trial was strictly a “place holder” idea. Currently, our plan is two days of regular HPRA racing. Since RCC is three days ( Friday (trade only), Saturday and Sunday( general public )), the racing will be on Saturday and Sunday.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

Saturday
Registration and Tech Inspection
Individual One Lap Time Trial ( Standing Start ) ( .56 mile track )
50 lap race - Streamliner and Streetliner Class (.56 mile track )
10 lap ( .25 mile track ) race - Trike Class

Lunch

35 lap race (.56 mile track ) Stock Classes
Stock
Women
Junior
Multi ( Tandems )
Last Man Out Race ( .25 mile track ) by Class

Sunday
One Lap, timed to place in One Hour Time Trial
Group One Time Trial - One Hour, .56 mile track
Group Two Time Trial ( If necessary )
Single Elimination Drag Race - By Class - Front Straightaway.
