I've read some reviews of that unit, and while some liked it, I found quite a few who had problems, from lower-than-expected power to early failures.

I didn't have an option for the shutter from an OEM recently so I ponied up for the SON deluxe, and it has been absolutely excellent. On a 406 front wheel, coupled with a B&M Luxos U, it puts out great light (really wide pattern, and auto-brightness, and auto-focus as speed increases/decreases). During the day, even when riding at 8-9 mph (with the kid) it puts out enough USB power to charge my phone while it's running all background processes + strava. On tour, it kept my phone and my little action video camera running all day every day.

It was nice not having to worry about power or light at any time.

That's more than I would spend on an generator. I had no problem using my 13400 mha battery pack on tours, it would charge my android phone 5 times. My will be a 700c wheel, so your 8 mph is my 12 mph. 3 watts is 3 watts and .5 amp is all that it has, is it will charge a 2500 mah battery in 5 hours of riding. My purpose is maintenance and worry free lighting.

My old friction generator is 6 watts, 5 amp.

I received my LE CG PA1 Osram Ostar projection LED. I will use in my headlight.http://static6.arrow.com/aropdfconversion/28315f36fdedfee60d491e3ed1cfe1b7d0745bd1/10990830282201536le20cg20p1a.pdf

I wonder if I can take a few turns out of the dynamo winding, make it 4 volt,.75 amp as the LED forward voltage is only 3.5 volts, it should give 1.5x brightness. Otherwise I could run two Rebel Luxen LEDs in series ( 2.9 vf) on each phase..

I received the supra2 kool stop brake pads and dynamo hub.

The PV-8 hub is tiny compared the Shimano DH-3n31-nt. They both have the same number of poles. The wheel will be cross 2 lace.

388g vs 705g:

I also worked on the seat frame, though the 7/8x.028 tube is hard to work with..bend ect.

I like the hub dynamo, but I think I am going with something like this for my corovelo. I use a 12 volt, 4 pound motorcycle battery for my fan when it is hot.
