BIG ROCK:
Would you love to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life? Are
you fed up with traffic jams and rude suburban drivers? Then head out to
a place where “thank you” is a common word, where drivers who have
stopped before you at a stop actually wave you on ahead of them (as
opposed to having a car speed up from several car lengths behind you to
cut you off in the merge), where people actually say “excuse me”
(instead of rudely bumping into you without a word), and where strangers
step aside and gladly hold doors open for you even though they got there
first. Come out to a place where life is simpler, schools are safer, and
open land more plentiful. Come out to Big Rock, a small, quaint town
about 50 miles west of Chicago. Big Rock itself is home to 700+ people,
with about 2,700 people living in all of Big Rock Township. Having a
convenience store/gas station and a café located in town, most other
amenities are within a 20 minutes’ drive. Accessing I-88 takes 10
minutes, and the nearest Metra train station is a 15 minutes’ drive.
Wondering what you’ll do in your spare time? Big Rock’s park offers
something for everyone - a children’s playground, basketball, volleyball
and tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, a paved walking track,
and a pavilion complete with picnic tables. Enjoy a family bike ride in
town or on one of the many nicely paved, scenic country roads.
And if you really want to get away from it all and get back to nature,
the Big Rock Forest Preserve is 3.5 miles away, offering hiking trails,
fishing, and horseback riding.
