| Just another day in Central Park
by Shelly Mossey
On Saturday, April 7, I was doing a few laps in Central Park.
As I started to come down the big hill I noticed a mounted officer
walking north. I had my GRR's sock on. Well the horse
had a big problem with it and started bucking. I this point I came to a
complete stop about 50' in front of him. I watched as he did a 180 and
continued bucking, threw the officer over the left side.
His left foot became locked in the stirup and he was being draged a little.
Finally he released his foot. The horse then took off down the west side drive.
I immediately rolled up to him making sure he was okay. I was deciding if I
should chase the horse or tend to the officer; I stuck with the officer. He
immediately radioed he was down & his horse was running off.
This radio call was perceived as OFFICER DOWN ! ! ! ! !
It TOOK NO MORE THAN 2 SEC`S
.........for about 50 Police vehicles to fill the park drive ! Emergency
units ,Taxi cabs, police cars & trucks everywhere! They took him off on a
stretcher just as precaution. I sure he`s okay.
I will check today & offer to introduce his horse to my bike ! He told me the
horse was a new guy and needed more time out in the city. He was caught down
the road and tied to a tree , he`s okay too !
Runners and bikers went about thier business as if we were in another
dimension.
After all this is NYC!
