Route description: Bronx River Parkway loop

There isn't really a route per se: you just follow the highway south until you hit the road block, then get on the northbound side and go back up. There are county police, a maintenance stop along the way, ice cream trucks... and lots of bikes.

At the north end, the County Center doors are open, and you are free to use the bathrooms.

Parking is available for a small fee in the lot next to the center.

There is also a path that runs alongside the parkway, and continues north past the closed section. This is narrow and parts of it are in poor condition. It provides a way to get back up to the start if you get caught by the closing of the parkway.

PROMPTNESS IS IMPORTANT, since the parkway is only closed for four hours. This is enough time to comfortably do three full loops, or about 40 miles, with rest breaks. It's important to show up AND BE READY TO RIDE by 10 am.

AFTER THE RIDE, the cool thing to do is head across the street to the City Limits Diner, which has terrific food and very cool architecture. It's crowded and does not take reservations, but they do move right along there, so it's unlikely that you'll have to wait very long. You can change to street clothes in the County Center bathrooms.

As an alternative, a mile away there is a good Indian restaurant with an all-you-can-eat buffet for ten bucks. If there's interest in this we'll post directions.
