Ride description: Cherry Valley, PA Loop

Delaware Water Gap/Saylorsburg - 25.4 miles.
It's a ride that can be fairly level for this area, the Pocono Mountains, if you want it to be. The route goes between the borough of Delaware Water Gap and the small town of Saylorsburg and back again on a different road. What's unique about this ride is the fact that the roads are very lightly traveled. Cherry Valley is beautiful farm country with relatively few houses along the route. The scenery is just terrific.

The ride out on Cherry Valley Road is a gradual incline up toward Saylorsburg. Most of the ride has moderate “rollers” but you are aware that your average speed is down because you are gradually gaining altitude as you get to Saylorsburg. An added bonus is the fact that the road is fairly well shaded for long stretches. Once in Saylorsburg you turn left along Route 115 for about half a mile and then turn left onto Lower Cherry Valley Road for the return trip. The average speed to Kemmertown is higher because of down hills.

At the Y in Kemmertown those who want to avoid the serious hill climbing can take Middle Rd back to Delaware Water Gap.

Those who want some exercise bear right onto Poplar Valley Road. Now the climbing begins in earnest. You continue climbing to Totts Gap Hill Road. At the top of Totts Gap Hill Road the big down hill begins. The road was recently repaved and boy was it smooth. It is also steep! The road has a number of curves in it so you need good brakes to scrub off some speed. Paul John hit over 60 MPH on his Jester with tailbox!

At the bottom of Totts Gap Hill the road meets Cherry Valley Rd and the people coming along the flat route will meet you there for the short trip back to the Park & Ride lot.

We usually end the ride at the Village Farmer, in Delaware Water gap, which offers fresh pie, baked goodies and cider (in season).
