Driving directions: North County Trailway, Westchester (Revised 3/22/03) PRIMARY MEETING SPOT: MILLWOOD (Mapquest reference: Do a search on Station Place, Millwood) We've chosen Millwood because it's got ample parking and there are stores nearby, so there should be a chance to use the bathroom. From Millwood north to the end of the trail in Putnam County is about 14 miles, and it includes some of the nicest parts of the trail. For those who want a longer ride, there's plenty of trail south of Millwood, so it's possible to just continue on past the parking lot on the return leg. Click HERE to see an overview map Click HERE to see a close-up map Directions to Millwood From NJ and upstate NY via the Tappan Zee Bridge: - Go across the bridge. - Continue on 287/87 - Take Exit 8 to I-287 (Cross Westchester Pkwy). - Get off the very next exit to Saw Mill Pkwy/Taconic Pkwy North.The exit comes up quick. Be prepared! This should be exit 1, however, because of the recent construction, the sign may have been removed. Off the exit, bear left and continue to the Saw Mill Parkway. - Take the Taconic Parkway exit (several miles): it should be Exit 26. Take the Taconic State Parkway north. -Take the Rt. 100/133 exit, towards Millwood and Briarcliff Manor. - At the end of the ramp, turn left. - Go to the intersection (note the trail on your right when you get to the light) and turn RIGHT onto Rt. 100 NORTH. - Go about 200 yards. You'll see a Mobil station on your right, at the corner of Station Place (which is also Rt. 133). Turn RIGHT here. - Go about a half mile and look for the entrance to a small parking lot on your right, marked by a brown sign. If it's full, park in the shopping center you just passed, or the small business lots just beyond the main parking lot. From NYC/South: There are a couple of options, due to the complex nature of the roads in Westchester. Which one you pick depends on exactly where you're coming from. These directions will get you there, but it might be wise to carry a map anyway. - via the Sprain Brook: - Take the Sprain Brook Parkway to the Taconic State Parkway. Take the Rt. 100/133 exit, towards Millwood and Briarcliff Manor. - At the end of the ramp, turn left. - Go to the intersection (note the trail on your right when you get to the light) and turn RIGHT onto Rt. 100 NORTH. - Go about 200 yards. You'll see a Mobil station on your right, at the corner of Station Place (which is also Rt. 133). From coastal CT/East: - Take I-287, the Cross Westchester Expressway, to Exit 3 (Sprain Brook Parkway towards the Taconic). - From this exit, head to the Sprain Brook North, and follow it until it becomes the Taconic. Take the Rt. 100/133 exit, towards Millwood and Briarcliff Manor. - At the end of the ramp, turn left. - Go to the intersection (note the trail on your right when you get to the light) and turn RIGHT onto Rt. 100 NORTH. - Go about 200 yards. You'll see a Mobil station on your right, at the corner of Station Place (which is also Rt. 133). From points north (Massachusetts, Putnam and Duchess counties) - Take the Taconic State Parkway South to the Rt. 100/133 exit for Millwood and Briarcliff Manor. Turn RIGHT off the exit and go under the Taconic. - After you pass under the Taconic, you'll see a Mobil gas station on your right, at the corner of Station Place (which is also Rt. 133). Turn RIGHT here. - Go a few hundred yards and look for the entrance to a small parking lot on your right, marked by a brown sign. If it's full, park in the shopping center you just passed, or in one of the small business lots just beyond the lot. |
