Driving directions: New Paltz, NY The meeting place is a small parking lot just off Rt. 299, and just west of Rt. 208 in New Paltz, NY To get to New Paltz, take the NY State Thruway (I-87) to the New Paltz exit (Rt. 299). Head west into and through town. Note that there is a very badly timed traffic signal as you enter town that can cause a serious traffic snarl, so allow a few minutes for this. Look for Rt. 208. About 200 feet after 208 crosses 299, you'll see a stone wall on your left with an elevated parking lot on the other side. That's the spot. Make a left onto Wurtz St., then another left into the lot. If you get to the bottom of the hill and cross an iron truss bridge, you've gone too far. If you need supplies or repairs, there's a bike shop across the street. New Paltz is not served by public transit, but it is possible to take the train from NYC to Poughkeepsie and ride to the start (about 10 miles). |
