In 1981 midwest racing group started as the “Great Lakes Streamliner Series”

In the eary 1990's the midwest race series was reorganized as HumanPowerRaceamerica.( HPRA )

2010 - Barbara Buatois set a women's human powered speed of 75.69 MPH
2013 - The current record is 133.78 km/h (83.13 mph), set by Sebastiaan Bowier of the Netherlands

Riding a Cruzbike, Maria Parker won the RAAM in the female recumbent category after making an incredible comeback. She was also fastest female overall.
Maria Leijerstam became the first person to pedal to the South Pole. She rode a custom ICE recumbent trike.
