Race Report by Warren Beauchamp

Wow, those were some HOT races. We were really cooking. Speeds were kept low by the 90 degree corners (and 90 degree temps!) on the square course around the N. Manchester high school, but it was a great course for stock bike racing. I crashed my new Cuda-W twice and discovered that it bounces right over the curbs while sliding backwards, but sliding head first into the curb is not as fun. I raced it in a couple races and decided it needed more work before I raced it any more. Rich Myers crashed his Mini-Moby and bounced it off a fence post. He was shaken up but hopped right back in and finished the race. Dennis Grelk crashed Garrie Hill's Jester into the other fence post on the same corner, while screaming around the corner at 30MPH during the 1 lap TT. He pretzeled the Kintana fork on the Jester, but both he and the bike were fine otherwise. No crashing on the NoCom in stock class, and I came in 3nd overall for the weekend behind Gary Toy and Dennis Grelk. I was toast at the end of the day Saturday after 6 races, but recovered enough for the final race on Sunday. In that race Dennis took off like a shot on Rick Gritter's lowracer, and lapped everyone including the streamliners. Gary and I battled for 2nd place for a while, then he took off on his Cobra and ended up lapping me. I drafted Upright Mike for most of the race (Thanks Mike!). Dennis said later that he averaged about 2MPH faster on Rick's bike over the Jester, but that he was a lot less comfortable while doing so... I have now learned my lesson. Just race in one class unless you are a superhero like Rick Gritters!
