| In 2004, Elan
team member Ellen Van Der Horst set a new women's record
at 65.89 MPH in the extremely tight fitting Varnowski Varna clone speedbike.
Teammate Hans Wessels
cranked the WhiteHawk speedbike up to 58.23 MPH.
Hans Van Vugt says The Elan team plans to
return in 2005, and a new speedbike is in the works for
Ellen to use. It will be half the size as the
White Hawk (40 cm with and 70 high including the wheels).
The frontal area would be less then 0.2 square meters and if drag is the same as the white hawk, this should be
0.065.
Hans put this information into a formula, which said she could go over 75
MPH at BM. Even even 80 MPH is possible if she can get 300 watts on the pedals.
He also said that Hans Wessels will drive the "Speed Hawk"
at bm.
