2006 WHPSC Tuesday Pictures and Racing Results

Sean Costin relates the following: 
I talked with Al Krause as he was sitting down to eat after the days runs. Here is the unofficial summary.
Tuesday conditions Dead calm Temps in the 60's Rain threatening.
Tuesday results:
Sam Whittingham 74.7 mph in Varna Diablo. He switched back to Diablo from Camera bike to take advantage of good conditions and assure a high placing.
Damjan Zabovnik 74.1 mph then Crashed upon hitting a bump in pavement after the traps but before the bridge. Damian unhurt and bike is in good condition. He will run again. New European record.
Tom Novak I believe in a Varna Clone broke 60 Mph
Rob Hitchcock in Kyle Edge approx. 55 mph
Dean Pederson 53.26
Cal Poly did not run 
Fred Markham showed up this evening, but did not run.

Red Bull for everyone! Racers set up their bikes for display at the Battle Mountain civic center. L to R, Dean Pederson, Rob Hitchcock, Tom Nowak, Bill Gaines. 
The Orange Varna, newly converted from a trike to a bike,  was designed to support a huge range of gearing. 
Battle Mountain school kids get a field trip to look at the funny bikes every year. 

Damjan Zabovnik explains to the Battle Mountain grade school kids how he can steer while going backwards.

Dean says that the kids had gone online before they came and studied up on streamliners. Their assignment was to draw their favorite streamliner
 and that particular girl with the glasses had drawn the Gold Rush, which she noticed had a similar body shape to the Coyote. She asked if the Coyote and the Gold Rush were related? There have been loads of folks who didn't see that resemblance. Pretty damn good eye for a third grader!
